What started as a peaceful 2-hour kayak trip became a 7-hour survival story!
On July 15, I headed to Silver Springs for what I expected would be a relaxing paddle through one of Florida's most beautiful waterways. It was everything I hoped for—crystal-clear water, manatees, plenty of fish, black moccasin snakes, alligators, and incredible scenery.
Then everything changed.
My kayak tipped over, and what should have been a quick recovery turned into hours of struggling to retrieve the kayak. After spending far longer in the Florida sun than anyone plans for, I realized I had one thing working in my favor.
Before we launched, I had slipped a small bottle of Warrior's Crown Sentinel SPF 30 into my pocket. During the ordeal, I actually reapplied it while I wed still out on the water.
That little bottle may have been the smartest thing I packed.
After nearly 7 hours, a wonderful family spotted me, rescued me in their boat, and towed me for about 45 minutes back to the dock. I can't thank them enough for their kindness.
The amazing part? Despite spending hours under the blazing Florida sun, I didn't get sunburned anywhere except the backs of my hands—the one place I hadn't protected.
Lesson learned:

Florida sun is no joke, and sunscreen has always been a pain for me. The ones I used before would run when I perspired, get into my eyes, burn, and then I’d rub it all off trying to stop the sting.
